Whenever you hear someone taking about supermodels, there is always likelihood that lot of criticism and abuse is thrown at that person instead of the good and positive feedback.

Despite of all the criticism, Supermodels try to maintain high level of excellence. The job of these supermodels is not easy to say the least. They always maintain flawless skin. Their body, shape and looks are always in perfect condition. That is the reason people cannot keep from envying them. It is true for both genders, male and female supermodels. But females are more likely to be target of insult and gags and abusive behaviour. This treatment is not associated with their on-screen performance but off-screen once.

Things like anorexia, which is a serious health issue generally associated with models, who want to look as slim as possible. The kind of clothes they wear, are also made fun off, because no one can wear those kind of clothing in normal circumstances. Their casual and indiscriminate sexual behaviours which also include prostitution that has become part and parcel of fashion world. However, their male model counterparts don’t see this much negative publicity. That doesn’t mean that they are angels by any thought of imagination. They also get involved in sex scandals from time to time.

The fashion industry is very old but the term supermodel is relative new. It was not before 1940s that people started associating this term with models. Not every model is a supermodel, only the most desirable, most talented, most famous and most highly paid qualify for this category. They are often the brand ambassadors, and are cover girls of most famous fashion magazines.

They usually have contacts with important people and multinational companies are after these models. Ad companies offer them million dollar contracts to promote their products. So this way they develop a very good reputation in the fashion industry. They work with biggest fashion designers and labels on daily basis. No one calls them supermodel but when a model reaches that status people just know that they are looking at one. Some models also try to become famous by sleeping around to a famous Hollywood star or a sports icon.

Claudia Schiffer is a well-known German supermodel and actress. She says, “In order to become a supermodel one must be on all the covers all over the world at the same time so that people can recognise the girls.”

There is also an example of Paris Hilton, she has a supermodel star status but she did not exactly do the things Cludia Sciffer was taking about. In reality, she became famous for her sex tape and is now running top level Ad campaigns including GUESS, Marciano, Tommy Hilfiger, Iceberg Vodka and Christian Dior.
